In this hands-on workshop, we will give a detailed overview of the common plants that can make up, and disrupt, a productive pollinator habitat on a green roof. Participants will learn about the benefits that particular flowers and grasses provide, and the animals that benefit from their symbiotic relationships. The workshop will be led by NCA’s education and horticulture team. A brief presentation will be followed by a hands-on activity.
Join us at the Dutch Kills tributary of Newtown Creek for this year’s City of Water Day. Newtown Creek Alliance and members of the Dutch Kills Loop project will host an afternoon of activities to engage participants with the issues and opportunities for creating much-needed open space, resilience measures near this branch of the NY/NJ Estuary, and various ecological improvements within dense industrial Long Island City. The event will include hands-on activities to clean up public areas next to the waterway along 29th street and finish with a walking tour around the project area.
Love gardening and helping Greenpoint live up to its name? Join Newtown Creek Alliance to help the ongoing expansion of the Paidge Avenue Pollinator Pathway. These native plants will provide attractive habitat for the local ecosystems and provide opportunities for the community to come together to celebrate, support, and learn about urban ecology.
Join us to help plan the next steps for outreach and engagement of the Dutch Kills Loop project.
Love plants? Love LIC? Join Newtown Creek Alliance and Hunters Point Parks Conservancy and the neighbors to care for the 48th Ave Median Meadows! These pollinator supporting gardens were planted in the fall of 2020 in collaboration and partnership with PS/IS 78 and Hunters Point Community Middle School to provide habitat for the local ecology and provide opportunities for the community to come together to celebrate and learn about urban ecology.
