Join us for an evening to learn about the creatures of Newtown Creek, then and now, with Greenpoint local, Karolina Zaniesienko.
Lifelong Greenpointer and local “River Hag,” Karolina Zaniesienko takes a DIY approach to exploring the sometimes hidden natural world that exists all around us. For two years, Karolina has maintained a fishtank housing creatures she has caught in Newtown Creek. She posts her aquatic discoveries on her personal Instagram @judith.prietht.
Join Newtown Creek Alliance and Trees New York to learn about and care for the street trees in the East Williamsburg part of the North Brooklyn Industrial Business Zone.
This event will feature a walking tour led by Samuel A. Bishop II from Trees New York, who will discuss the lack of trees in the IBZ, ideal placements for street trees, and challenges street trees face in an industrial area.
After the walking tour, we will be tending street trees on Morgan Ave by doing tree bed maintenance, including trash removal, soil amendment, and mulching. Additionally, Trees New York will be conducting a small pruning demonstration to show the benefits of proper care for street trees by licensed Citizen Pruners.

Creek Critters is a marine ecology exploration program for people of all ages to interact with and learn about the critters who live in Newtown Creek!
Join us August 21-23 at the Newtown Creek Nature Walk in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, to be part of the fun! And meet us there at 4:30 p.m. on August 22 to watch as we install bivalve habitat in the Creek.
NCA is thrilled to invite you to the final presentation of our 2024 UHI Summer Research Cohort! Over the past 8 weeks, our dedicated fellows have been studying the impacts of Urban Heat Island (UHI) within the North Brooklyn Industrial Business Zone (IBZ).

Kingsland Wildflowers is a 25,000 sqft native pollinator garden nestled in Greenpoint Brooklyn’s industrial business zone. The project partners include: Alive Structures, Broadway Stages, Newtown Creek Alliance, and NOoSPHERE Arts. Learn more about the project here.
