The Newtown Creek Superfund Site Community Advisory Group meetings are beginning again for 2022! Mark your calendars, the CAG meets every 3rd Wednesday evening.
NYSDEC is seeking community feedback on their remediation plan for the cleanup of the former Equity Works manufactured gas plant located at 222-224 Maspeth Avenue at the corner of Vandervoort Ave. Investigation on this site began in 2009. It has been designated a “class 2 site” on the State’s Registry of Inactive Hazardous Waste Disposal sites. meaning that hazardous waste is on site, and it represents a significant threat to human health or the environment.
Cleanup is projected to begin September 2022 and last 12 months.
