Take a nature tour of Hunter’s Point South Park led by Gabriel Willow, in partnership with the Hunters Point Parks Conservancy. Gabriel a freelance environmental educator with a particular interest in birds, Human Ecology, and ecological plasticity & resilience in urban spaces.
These events will focus on migratory birds, as well as the salt marsh ecosystem that we have in Hunter’s Point South Park, the native plants and animals that are found in the park, and more.
Join us for a community BBQ in Long Island City. We will be bringing together folks that work in the area to talk about the Dutch Kills Loop project and share in food and drinks (provided for free). The event will be held outdoors, please wear a mask if unvaccinated. The event is open to all, no RSVP required.
Join NCA as we tackle one of our favorite access spots. Plank Road is a revitalized street end with known historic and ecological significance on Newtown Creek. We will be picking up trash along the shoreline and landscaping the existing vegetation and paths. Gloves, shovels, trash bags, and all other necessary materials will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to bring water, sun protection and wear closed-toed shoes.
Love plants? How about butterflies and New York City’s amazing native bees? Join Newtown Creek Alliance and the Friends of MASE Park to care for the meadows in the park and on nearby Paidge Ave! Over the last few years, we’ve planted thousands of flowering native plants in these locations to provide habitat and support for our native pollinators and we’d love your help in caring for them.
Curious about NYC’s last frontier in underutilized spaces – green roofs – how they operate, function, and perform? Do you also love plants and the insects and birds they support? Join Newtown Creek Alliance to care for the green roof meadows at Kingsland Wildflowers!
