The NYC Dept. of Environmental Protection has put together a Long Term Control Plan (LTCP).for Newtown Creek. In short, the LTCP is designed to address Combined Sewer Overflow and bring Newtown Creek into compliance with Clean Water Act standards. The process calls for community feedback and participation, so it is very important for stewards of the Creek to attend meetings, ask questions and submit comments during the process.

On June 30th, 2017 NYC DEP submitted the Newtown Creek LTCP to NYS DEC. After reviewing the document NCA, along with our partners at Riverkeeper, submitted comments outlining points where we believe the LTCP could be stronger and more effective in improving water quality within Newtown Creek for generations to come.

Our partners at the S.W.I.M Coalition have put together a wonderful intro book about the LTCP process, check it out here.
